What?
Last week, we went to the Life Long Institute again to communicate with the students, which were a group of enthusiastic seniors. Different with the latest two experiences, I spent this one and half hours with four different persons, who are LLI students, Linda and Nan, Our new friend, Theresa, and my Chinese friend: Luyue. Our weekly topic of presentation was Food, which is a popular and attractive content. And because of the experiences we had from the previous two times, it’s easier for us to handle the whole conversation last week, so this communication was the best so far.
So What?
We were all female, it really helpful when I talked about some nutrition was good for our skin, the vegetables were full of fiber could speed up metabolism, and some other topics like that, which couldn’t be easily spread among an occasion with women and men together. Instead of last two times, last Tuesday, we have three audiences, two of them were the students of LLI. So this time, we need to learn how to care all of them, and concentrate the five members’ attention together at the same rhythm. And to a topic like food, everybody had her own opinions. Especially Chinese food, it seemed like it came onto the world stage, nearly everyone knew it. But in fact, in order to chase the local favor, the Chinese food in our audiences’ eyes was not actual dishes. So our presentation let them taste the real Chinese food. Luyue and I came from different parts of China, so it’s extremely essential to cover each other when we introduce our homeland flavor from different angles to our foreign friends. I was starting to eye that our three audiences were all curious with our food, so they were keeping asking questions during the whole process. And Linda, was a teacher before she got retirement, tried her best to cooperate us to finish our presentations in time with her work experience.
Now What?
Thanks to Linda, we finished all our presentations in time. Next time, I need to notice that keep all the conversation on our main idea. As an all female group, it’s common to develop a topic, but at the same time, going away from our topic was easy, too. And next time, we could cherish the treasure tea time to discuss some thing different with the weekly topic to know each other deeply.
And I do need to improve my vocabularies to improve my oral skills.
